We Bring IP/MPLS Networks to Uruguay's Largest Technology Park

Using Nokia Technology

With Nokia technology, together with Willinn (MTI), the technology company within the Zonamerica group, we carried out the modernization project for Zonamerica's transport network. With the goal of delivering carrier-class service, we installed an MPLS solution that ensures connectivity for the more than 500 companies located on the campus and improves speeds for over 7,000 end users.

A Connected Technology Park

Zonamerica, Uruguay's leading international business community, with more than 500 companies from over 14 industries and more than 7,000 employees (approximately 42% of all free trade zone workers in the country), specializes in designing and creating highly competitive business environments. It combines the advantages of proximity to a major city with expansive green spaces.

It provides a comprehensive real estate solution for companies, based on world-class infrastructure and modern technology services. It offers scalability, flexibility, and redundancy to its clients in business environments with amenities and services for their employees, facilitating the growth of both companies and individuals.

Willinn, for its part, is Zonamerica's technology company. It offers tailored, scalable, redundant, and efficient integrated IT solutions that address the needs of companies of all sizes. With more than 30 years of experience, Willinn operates in Latin America with headquarters in Montevideo and Cali and a presence in the United States.

The Challenge: Being a Reliable Technology Partner

Some of the solutions offered by the Zonamerica campus, through Willinn, include internet access, Wi-Fi, and telephone systems. These services must be scalable and flexible so that they can keep pace with the growth of companies and their employees.

To consolidate its position as a key partner for the companies based on the campus, it must maintain high quality standards, as well as cutting-edge technology solutions and robust support suited to the volume of traffic.

Scaling Services and Increasing Browsing Speed

The growth of the park and the increasing bandwidth requirements led Willinn to replace its traditional network with a new high-speed Nokia MPLS network. This network is more efficient, resilient, and flexible. Its scalable design allows it to accommodate the future growth of Zonamerica's clients, which means that if they relocate to a different building or expand their space, migrating or adapting the network service is simpler and more immediate.

Additionally, it reduces operational error margins because, as a service-oriented network, performing new configurations involves fewer steps than the previous solution, and it allows greater autonomy for maintenance.

Another advantage is the increase in browsing speed. With 25 Gbps MPLS rings, Willinn will be able to increase the available bandwidth for users, substantially improving the user experience.

What Did This Project Mean?

Alejandro Pereyra, Head of Engineering and Operations at Willinn, stated: "At Willinn, we designed the network engineering and chose Isbel/Nokia as partners because they met all the requirements we needed to deliver carrier-class service for our clients based on the campus."

Regarding the process, he highlighted the teamwork among the three companies: "We worked for nearly 8 months on the project, achieving our goal of delivering higher service quality to the client without interruptions during implementation."

From Nokia's side, Marcelo Entreconti, Enterprise Leader for Latin America, commented: "We are proud to be part of this project. Being an enabler of digital transformation through our networks, with technology and connectivity, is one of Nokia's primary objectives. Bringing these objectives to life in a project like this, which will directly benefit our client and their operations, is extremely gratifying." Entreconti added: "We thank Isbel for the important partnership in this initiative, as well as Willinn and Zonamerica for trusting in our work."

From Isbel, Alejandro Draper, Product Line Manager of Networking & Security, shared that it was a project that posed a demanding challenge: "We installed a large-scale network from scratch. Migrating this extensive production network to the new infrastructure required detailed planning to eliminate or minimize service interruptions." "With a team of more than 15 people, we focused on designing strategies to automate tasks, save time, and work on identifying and mitigating risks," he added.
